we'll go to los angeles following the final mission. quite a scene out there. >> reporter: it certainly is, jessica and what an incredible day it was. i am at the first stopping point for the shuttle. it has since moved on to its number two stopping point. let's show you a live look as to what is happening right now as the shuttle is sitting there. it'll sit there for about six hours or so and they're actually getting the shuttle ready to cross the 405 freeway bridge and that happens tomorrow morning. now the shuttle departed l.a.x. around 2:00 this morning. it was rolled away on its 200,000-pound transport vehicle. the "endeavour" made its first stop at about three and a half miles into the 12-mile journey. that is again where i'm located right now officials calling it a logistical pit stop of sorts. this journey has been dubbed mission 26. it is quite an endeavor indeed. shuttle controllers navigate l.a. streets at a top speed of two miles an hour on the giant transport vehicle. at some point the shuttle will just come within inches o

i wanted to start out by showing you some of the temperatures around the state because los angeles actually hit 104 degrees at the coast yesterday. it was really hot out there. 71 to start in fresno. fresno was very hot. the central valley will be the hottest location across the state besides palm springs. if you're headed to southern california and driving, make sure you check the fluids in your vehicle before you head out. 65 in san francisco, 61 in san mateo, 59 in sunnyvale to start. we're at 64 to start in san jose. campbell 77, same for santa teresa. it's going to be another hot day. as we head throughout the next couple days, an area of low pressure moves in. this will usher in a stronger onshore flow and really improve our air quality heading into wednesday and thursday, but we've got one more hot one to get through. make sure you keep that in mind if you have pets, kids, you want to prepare them for the day ahead. lots of water for the pets and the kids will need light-colored clothing. they have to wait for the bus or teachers at recess and it's hot out there. cooler winds arrive

we want to go ahead and show you a live picture from down here in los angeles. we are being told that right now it is at a stand still. it was moving at about 2 miles an hour and at that rate it's expected to arrive at its location, the california science center, by saturday night. it rolled out of l.a.x. at 2:00 a.m. this morning and southland residents were out there ready with their cameras on hand to capture this historic moment. airport officials told us they had to make certain adjustments to make sure that the roads around the airport would be able to support the weight of the shuttle along with the truck that is hauling it. the entire weight is about 300,000 pounds. that's the equivalent of a boeing 767. those roads were reinforced with metal sheets. going back to that live picture, we do want to let you know that well before today's event, the city of los angeles made numerous changes, taking down trees, making sure power lines wouldn't interfere with the shuttle, anything to make sure that this entire 13-mile trek went -- would go as smoothly as possib
